Role-playing Games

Many people tend to ignore the legacy we have from classical role-playing games when they talk about games and entertainment. Video games are cool and maybe more profitable, but there's much to be learnt from other genres.

A perfect example of this is the GNS Theory. It builds up a pretty good argument in the story vs simulation argument I've referred to before, but as the name suggests it does define it threefold: gamism, narrativism and simulationism. I think it pretty neatly could be transfered to computer games. And I do like the idea that Ron Edwards makes the point that there rarely will be a pure example of any of these.
